Air Serbia makes Košutnjak greener
21 March 2025
Air Serbia, in cooperation with PUE Srbijašume, planted 80 saplings of English oak and narrow-leaved ash in Košutnjak today, thus contributing to environmental preservation and improvement in the community where it operates. This initiative demonstrates the Serbian national airline's awareness of the importance of Košutnjak as the “green lungs of Belgrade" and the importance of socially responsible business practices.
“Our company is committed to reducing its carbon footprint through various initiatives in its daily operations. With the desire to do something good for environmental protection, in cooperation with our partners from PUE Srbijašume, we planted oak and ash trees near Hajduk Fountain in Košutnjak. We believe every tree planted is a kind of investment in the future, as it remains even after we are gone, growing and developing, creating a healthier environment for generations to come,” said Jiří Marek, CEO of Air Serbia.
Košutnjak contributes significantly to maintaining and improving the condition of the environment through the accumulation of organic matter and the stabilization of numerous processes in the atmosphere and soil. The forest complexes of Košutnjak, in their mature phase, release an average of 11 tons of oxygen and capture 15 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare. Its favourable geographical location, climate, geomorphological, geological, hydrogeological and pedagogical characteristics, along with the richness of flora and fauna interacting with cultural and historical development, distinguish the Košutnjak forest as a unique space in Belgrade.
